Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check


There are a number of reasons why CILEx Regulation may request a Disclosure Certificate from you. Please use the checker below to ensure you are applying for the right level of certificate:

What type of DBS check do I need?

Are you an individual applying for membership of CILEx or any registered member of CILEx declaring a conviction or caution in a prior conduct declaration?

You will need a Basic DBS check

Are you a member of CILEx working in an unregulated sole trader firm undertaking financial transactions on behalf of clients or the formation of companies?

You will need a Basic DBS check

Are you a Graduate member applying for Fellowship, but only where they are declaring prior conduct?

You will need a Standard DBS check

Are you an individual applying for Practice Rights (including extended rights of audience) or an Accountant applying to be a CILEX Practitioner (ACCA-Probate), even if you are not declaring prior conduct?

You will need a Standard DBS check

Are you an Approved Manager / Compliance Manager / Owner in an Authorised Entity, even if you are not declaring prior conduct?

You will need a Standard DBS check

Are you an individual applying for reinstatement as a Fellow, but only where they are declaring prior conduct?

You will need a Standard DBS check

Are you a Beneficial Owner, Officer or Manager in an Authorised Entity not checked as an Approved Manager, who requires approval under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017?

You may not need to have a DBS check but please contact CILEx Regulation if you are unsure
You will need a Basic DBS check


How do I apply?

For a Basic Disclosure certificate

  1. Please go to this page and click the “Start Now” button to apply online for a Basic Certificate.
  2. Before starting the online application please ensure you have the following information to hand:
    National Insurance number
    Five years address history including postcodes
    Passport details (If you have one)
    UK driver licence details (If you have one)
    A valid credit or debit card with which to make payment for the service
  3. When you receive your Basic certificate please only send a photocopy to CILEx Regulation, not the original.  We do not accept photographic images of certificates. We reserve the right to request the original Basic certificate, so please keep it in a safe place.

For a Standard Disclosure certificate 

uCheck carry out Standard Disclosure checks on behalf of CILEx Regulation. The information below will help you obtain a Standard Disclosure certificate through them:

  1. At the time a Standard Disclosure check is required you will be contacted by CILEx Regulation to explain the next steps. You will then receive an email from uCheck with a link to their online system to complete the application. If you don’t receive the email, please check your junk folders.
  2. Before starting the online application please ensure you have the following information to hand:
    National Insurance number
    Five years address history including postcodes
    Passport details (If you have one)
    UK driver licence details (If you have one)
    A valid credit or debit card with which to make payment for the service
  3. Once you have completed the online form you will need to get your ID verified. Please read the ID Verifying Guide carefully to ensure this is done correctly. This will help us to process your application quickly and avoid unnecessary delays.
  4. Send your verified ID by post to CILEx Regulation, Room 301, Endeavour House, Wrest Park, Silsoe, Bedford, MK45 4HS.
  5. uCheck will process your application and you will be sent a Standard Disclosure certificate directly from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
  6. When you receive your Standard Disclosure certificate please only send a photocopy to CILEx Regulation, not the original.  We do not accept photographic images of certificates. We reserve the right to request the original Standard certificate, so please keep it in a safe place.
