This section will help you understand what competency level you require and how you can demonstrate it.

To be an Approved Manager or Compliance Manager you need to demonstrate your competency against the requirements of the Practice Management and Accounts Management Competency Frameworks.

These can be found here:

What level of competence do I need?

Firstly, you must confirm what level of competency you need to demonstrate. This will depend on what function you wish to perform in an authorised entity.

Role you wish to perform in the organisation:
Level 1
Level 2a
Level 2b
Level 2c

How will I demonstrate my competence?

You will see that each of the competency frameworks (Practice Management and Accounts Management) is made up of a set of Learning Outcomes.

You will need to demonstrate your competency against each Learning Outcome at each of the levels required for the proposed role you intend to undertake in the firm.

To do this you have three options

  1. Completion of a course or courses
  2. Completion of logbook entries supported by evidence
  3. A combination of completed course(s) and logbook entries supported by evidence

Remember you can use different options to demonstrate compliance against each Learning Outcome. Equally it is possible in some cases that the evidence you provide for Level 2 will also cover Level 1, but remember this is not always the case.
