CRL at the LSB Reshaping Legal Services 2024 conference

LSB 2024 conference CRL attendeesCRL attended the LSB’s Reshaping Legal Services conference in London on 7 March 2024.

The event was well attended, with a wide range of organisations representing the legal sector sector. There was a packed agenda with a diverse range of top class speakers delivering the main themes of the conference. These included: how ethics and trust can be promoted in the legal sector; going further to understand the needs of consumers and; considerations as to what the sector needs to prepare for the future, particularly in terms of the opportunities and threats posed by the rapid advances in Artificial Intelligence.

Reflecting on the conference, CRL Interim CEO John Barwick said:

“We thank the LSB for organising such an insightful and thought-provoking conference.

The courage and resilience displayed by Lee Castleton who has spent 20 years fighting the injustice of the Post Office Horizon scandal, was particularly moving. What he and the other sub-postmasters have experienced must never be allowed to happen again and his testimony should serve as a call to action for regulators and others in the legal sector, to ensure a human focus remains at the centre of how the legal system operates.”

Other key themes to emerge from the conference included:

  • How we encourage collective responsibility across the legal profession around acting ethically?
  • What more can be done to improve the visibility of regulators’ work to ensure public trust and confidence?
  • How can regulatory and culture change go hand in hand?
  • How do we ensure AI creates value for the consumer with strong accountability?
  • The importance and value of a collaborative approach across the legal services sector.

CRL looks forward to collaborating in future discussions around trying to answer these important questions.
