Tender Awarded: Training and assessment for the alternative route to Practice Rights
CILEx Regulation has selected The University of Law to deliver training and assessment for our new authorisation scheme that allows experienced Chartered Legal Executives to apply for independent practice rights in their specialist area through an alternative route to authorisation.
Changes to prior conduct declarations
All applicants, CILEX members, CILEX Practitioners and individuals holding approved roles in our Authorised Entity firms are required to declare and provide details of certain conduct that may affect your suitability to become, or remain, a regulated legal professional (referred to as “prior conduct”).
New education standards for Chartered Legal Executives
The new standards create an integrated set of education requirements and a single application process, to allow applicants to become authorised as Chartered Legal Executives with the right to practise independently in their specialist area, without duplicating application and assessment requirements.
CILEx Regulation welcomes new Chair
We are delighted to announce that Jonathan Rees will take over as Chair of the CILEx Regulation Board from 1 September 2021. He pays tribute to outgoing Chair Sam Younger, and will work alongside existing Board members Alice Belcher, Nick Hanning and Andrew Donovan on a new three-year strategy.
Consultation: Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates (QASA)
CILEx Regulation is consulting on the proposal to amend the Rights of Audience Certification Rules to remove reference to the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates (QASA) and to replace the QASA elements with additional competency requirements, particularly focused on Youth Court advocacy.
This consultation would be of interest to CILEX Advocates, members of our regulated community and other stakeholders including approved regulators, consumers of legal services, consumer organisations and those interested in criminal justice.

Consultation for recognition of prior legal qualifications policy and handbook
As part of the wider proposals to change the route to become a Chartered Legal Executive, CILEx Regulation is proposing to create a policy to recognise prior legal qualifications, which will enable applicants with certain legal qualifications that meet the authorisation requirements to apply for authorisation directly to CILEx Regulation.
