It provides information on the knowledge and competence requirements set by CILEx Regulation and information to help CILEX Members working in Civil Litigation meet their CPD obligations.

Education Framework


Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

CPD is mandatory for all CILEX authorised persons.  All CPD activities should be recorded via the myCILEX portal.  The CILEX CPD year runs from 1 October to 30 September each year.

Paralegals must complete 8 hours CPD +1 professionalism CPD entry per CPD year.  At least 4 of the 8 hours must be within the Paralegal’s chosen specialist area.

Chartered Legal Executive Litigator and Advocates (Civil Litigation) or Chartered Legal Executive Advocates working in Civil Litigation must complete 9 CPD activities per CPD year.  Of the 9:

  • At least 1 must be a professionalism activity
  • At least 5 must be planned
  • At least 3 of the 5 planned CPD activities must be recorded at the start of the CPD year
  • At least 2 of the planned CPD activities mut be in topics related to advocacy skills
