Our firms are authorised to provide legal work in one, or more, of the following specific areas of law.

A firm may also provide other legal services which do not require our authorisation. The firm will still be regulated by us for all legal services they provide.

Conveyancing

Legal work needed to buy or sell property and related work such as remortgaging property or deal with landlord and tenancy issues.

Immigration

Immigration, asylum, citizenship and nationality work.

Civil litigation and
advocacy

Work involved in preparing for and going to a county court to sort out disputes. Speaking on a person’s behalf in judge’s chambers. Some lawyers can go into the main county court.

Criminal litigation and advocacy

Work needed to defend, or take a court case against, a person accused of a crime including speaking on a person’s behalf in magistrates’ court.

Family litigation and
advocacy

Legal work for divorce, and sorting issues about money, property and children. Speaking on a person’s behalf in judge’s chambers. Some lawyers can go into the family court.

Probate

Legal work needed to deal with preparing, trusts, inheritance tax and the administration of a dead person’s estate. Will-drafting is often provided.
