Lay Non-Executive Director

CILEx Regulation is the independent regulator for Chartered Legal Executives, committed to proportionate, risk-based regulation in a rapidly changing legal services environment and to widening access to the legal profession.  This role offers the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the future of legal regulation in the public and consumer interest.

 

We are looking for someone with previous non-executive board (level) experience who is able to demonstrate an ability to think strategically and to work effectively within a small, collaborative non-executive and executive team.

We will be looking for professional experience relevant to the role such as a strong understanding of professional regulation, consumer protection, accessibility and diversity, education including legal education, or the use of technology in service delivery.

The Lay Board Member will be remunerated at £8.4k per annum for an estimated 24 days per year. The appointment will start in January 2021 for three years, extendable by agreement for a further three years. Candidate’s must not be or have been legal practitioners or work in the legal profession. The split between virtual and in-person meetings is likely to be roughly 50/50.

The Board currently consists of three lay members (including the Chair) and two professional members and has overall responsibility for our strategy, performance and delivering our statutory responsibilities.
