Statement by CILEx Regulation Limited (CRL)

Statement by CILEx Regulation Limited (CRL)

CRL welcomes the Legal Services Board’s announcement today that it will be investigating the circumstances of the disagreement arising from (i) CILEX’s plan to re-delegate regulatory functions, (ii) CRL’s referral to the LSB of CILEX’s failure to transfer reserves and claimed practising certificate revenues and (iii) CILEX’s objection to CRL publishing its planned consultation relating to changes in regulatory arrangements.

CRL first referred CILEX’s actions to the LSB formally in February 2022 and further referrals have followed. CRL has kept the LSB regularly informed of issues as they have arisen.  CILEX referred its objection to CRL’s planned consultation on 25 September 2022.

CRL will continue to cooperate with the LSB and welcomes the LSB’s proposed detailed engagement.

CRL will continue to operate as normal.

Jonathan Rees, Chair of the CRL Board, commented:

“CRL strongly supports transparent decision making and accountability for public bodies. We very much hope that the LSB’s process will now operate efficiently and that it will, in a timely way, resolve the issues which we have referred.”
