Governance update

CILEx Regulation announces changes to its Board of Directors further to strengthen governance. These changes were agreed at the Board’s annual review of its governance arrangements and reflect recommendations made in its Board Effectiveness Review. These are:

  • Extending the Chair’s role by 12 months to 31 August 2028 to provide governance continuity, particularly as two Board members’ terms end in 2027.
  • Appointing the Chief Executive to the Board. This is consistent with modern regulatory practice and enhances collective accountability.
  • Appointing Patricia White for a second term as a professional member. Her second term runs until May 2029.
  • Making provision for a Board associate role. This is a professional role for those looking to gain board experience. We intend to recruit for this role in Autumn.

Commenting on the changes, CRL chair, Jonathan Rees said:

“Last year we asked an independent consultant to review our governance arrangements. The Review found a high level of Board effectiveness in governance, structures and processes. But we are keen to build on this sound basis. The changes we are announcing are intended to provide governance continuity, ensure our collective accountability and strengthen our diversity. We are particularly looking forward to welcoming an associate member to the Board, which we will be recruiting for in the Autumn.”
