CILEx Regulation welcomes new Chair

We are delighted to announce that Jonathan Rees will take over as Chair of the CILEx Regulation Board from 1 September 2021. He pays tribute to outgoing Chair Sam Younger, and will work alongside existing Board members Alice Belcher, Nick Hanning and Andrew Donovan on a new three-year strategy.

Consultation: Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates (QASA)

CILEx Regulation is consulting on the proposal to amend the Rights of Audience Certification Rules to remove reference to the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates (QASA) and to replace the QASA elements with additional competency requirements, particularly focused on Youth Court advocacy.

This consultation would be of interest to CILEX Advocates, members of our regulated community and other stakeholders including approved regulators, consumers of legal services, consumer organisations and those interested in criminal justice.

As part of the wider proposals to change the route to become a Chartered Legal Executive, CILEx Regulation is proposing to create a policy to recognise prior legal qualifications, which will enable applicants with certain legal qualifications that meet the authorisation requirements to apply for authorisation directly to CILEx Regulation.
